4. Conceptual Energy Drink Animation

Examples of Energy Drink Animation

Figure 1 : Commercial for the energy drink business Celsius. Short social media product video. When massive handheld energy drink meets elegant transitions and dramatic sound design

Refresh Time Storyboard

A can will roll about in a slow-motion Refresh Time animation until it stands on end and the energy from the can causes it to fly. It flies, lands upside-down, then turns. The other two cans show when it turns the appropriate way, and it appears as though the camera is switching between the views while the energy lightning splashes as a liquid. There won’t be any verbal advertising; instead, background music related to slow motion animation will be playing.

After some time, my package concept was changed from illustrations to straightforward vector shapes that symbolise a particular activity the target audience would want to achieve when drinking the can. This makes the design even more simple, and speaking of simplicity, the animation won’t have any extra components because during teamwork activity, the created the wooden slow motion animation just used the key components to convey the story.

3. Stop Motion Teamworking Evidence

Robert Consoli divided the group into two teams of three and assigned them the goal of making a stop motion video using wooden dolls while cooperating as a team.

We covered how roles in the Danish orchestra can be followed in real life in the previous assignment. So it was up to me to be proactive and show leadership skills, which were lacking in this collaborative project. Abbie was the group leader, and her offered idea was accepted by both myself and Rana.

What is a Stop Motion Animation?

Stop motion animation, often known as stop frame animation, is a type of animation in which actual objects are moved about the screen between each frame as the animation is being recorded. The illusion of movement is produced by quickly replaying the series of photos. Stop motion is comparable to 2D drawn animation (early Disney), although it employs real-world objects rather than drawings (Dragonframe, n.d.).

Taking a photo of your items or characters, moving them slightly, and then taking another photo is the fundamental method of animation. The objects or figures seem to move on their own when the photographs are played back one after another (Dragonframe, n.d.).

Example of Stop Motion Animation

Figure 1 : It involves an artist’s tiny posable dummy doll that comes to life and desires for a face identical to the one in the drawing (Doug Vandegrift, 18 May 2009 ).

The development from a simple sketch to a moving wooden doll is explored in this stop motion animation. As the artist walks away, the doll begins to move and gazes at the drawing, wishing for a face. This animation also has a comedic element, as the doll creates weird faces until it finds the appropriate one.

The Sting of Love Stop Motion Animation

To create this stop motion animation, I, Rana, and Abbie planned to use moving wooden models to create a toxic relationship fight. So Clara approaches Bob and slaps him, causing him to slap her back and they both fall down. Abbie was leading the teamwork session and filming the video frame by frame. Rana and I were gradually repositioning the wooden figures.

Figure 2 : Our String of Love focuses on the toxic relashionship between Clara and Bob (Rana Maglad, 02 March 2023).

Clara runs towards Bob and slapped Bob which they later fight each other. As Clara fells to top of Bob, she stands up and leaves in tears and sorrow. My job was to manoeuvre Bob while Abbie took each shot, and the entire collaboration process was fun.

When it comes to creating my stop motion animation, a similar approach and move the can slightly. As the can will be moved, a drawn logo on it and stick it together.

2. Energy Drink Package Design

How might it differ if Energy Drink had a specific target audience?

Figure 1 : Caffeine-laced energy drinks have been the subject of much debate in recent years, following a number of reported deaths and overdoses linked to the drinks (Ariana Eunjung Cha, The Washington Post, 12 November 2015).

Refresh Time’s major purpose is to sell a natural flavour drink with sugar instead of caffeine because people with high blood pressure cannot and will not consume such drinks. The label will mention whether or not caffeine was added, as well as other legal information.

The following must be printed on all food and drink products as required by law. This information ought to be unambiguous, permanent, understandable, easily visible, and not deceptive (GOV.UK, 2022).

Such as the food’s name, the ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ date, any required precautions, net quantity data, an ingredient list if necessary, the country or place of origin, the lot number or the expiration date, any special storage requirements, and use or cooking instructions if applicable (GOV.UK, 2022).

This information would have to be integrated into any designs created during the brand’s creation stage because it occupies about 25% of the can’s overall print area (GOV.UK, 2022).

Why Eco Friendly Packaging is Important ?

Figure 2 : The use of renewable or biodegradable materials that are not harmful to the environment represents eco-friendly packaging. Sustainability has been fundamentally examined in practically every alcohol sector, including beer, wine, and spirits, and has impacted not only packaging but also sourcing ingredients and other procedures (Shreya Kohli, Beverage Trade Network n.d.).

Normal packaging is extremely dangerous not only to wild life but also to people as the materials produced from the polyethelene. “In Europe, 70% of recyclable plastics end up in a landfill or the oceans.” The production process of non-environmentally friendly packaging is another issue. Not only is the majority of plastic produced by the refining of crude oil, but the degradation process is also hazardous. Plastic degrades over hundreds of years, releasing harmful compounds such as bisphenol A, which can affect animal hormonal systems (Shreya Kohli, Beverage Trade Network n.d.).

Sketches of Package

Figure 3 : Refresh Time drinks will be packaged in recycled cardboard, which is now utilised in environmentally friendly packaging, according to these sketches of potential packaging. However, having just the top would make it easier for senior people to move around. In order to be carried on a carry bag with wheels across the buses or to their car, the packaging will have a bottom and a handle.

1. Conceptual Energy Drink Brand Logo

Why logo design are important on Energy Drinks?

A well-designed logo can provide significant benefits to brands. It can help stimulate consumers’ interest, distinguish brands from competitors, facilitate brand recognition and communicate what a brand is all about (Jonathan Luffarelli, Mudra Mukesh, and Ammara Mahmood, Harward Business Review, 12 September 2019).

When you design a logo, your goal is to produce an instantly recognisable visual representation of your product or service. The graphic visual language you choose conveys the meaning, organisation, and aesthetic of your brand (Cath Caldwell 2019, p. 35).

Figure 1 : Monster Energy is an amazing example of a logo that was created but was not ideal for this target audience. Because of the Devil theme, this target population and some younger people find this logo controversial (ABC 7, 12 November 2014.).

The woman argues that the “M” logo appears to resemble three instances of the letter Vav, the Hebrew numeral for six, and interprets the logo to indicate “666.” Next, she refers to Monster Energy’s motto on a product banner that reads “Unleash the Beast,” interpreting these two examples as Monster Energy meaning to relate to “the beast” in the Book of Revelations (ABC 7, 12 November 2014.).

Sketches of Logo design

Unlike Monster Energy, which features a wide variety of logo-related contradictions. Refresh Time will have a classic pocket watch as a logo and a sand watch behind the pocket watch because turning the sand watch causes the time to advance backwards, in contrast to Monster Energy, which has a wide spectrum of logo dispute.

Figure 2 : This brand’s target customer is over 60s who don’t want to be reminded of their fantastic age. Therefore, Refresh Time would act as an energy booster, bringing back previously unvalued time and giving them a second chance to achieve something they actually wanted by drinking the pocket watch.
Figure 3 : Both letters “f” and “i” will be replaced as the lightning and time arrow to show the energy boost.

Refresh Logo Design

Figure 4 : A classic pocket watch served as a source of inspiration for the design (Amazon, Pinterest n.d.).

The original pocket watch photograph from Pinterest was used as a reference for my energy drink logo. The logo was created using circular forms, and the shapes were carved out with pathfinders to give the original timepiece realism. A pocket watch was utilised to show the target audience of over 60s that instead of going clockwise, the watch goes anticlockwise, taking them back in time and allowing them to do things they couldn’t do before because they were too busy or didn’t value their time. Change can be visible in activities such as travelling, trying new things, and learning to drive.

Figure 5 : Completed Refresh Time logo that integrates the concepts of energy and time and appeals to the target market.

4. Relevent Animation History

What is Animation?

The process of bringing illustrations or inanimate objects to life through motion pictures is known as animation. Animation techniques manipulate photos and drawings to create the illusion of movement and to tell a story to viewers on screen. (MasterClass, n.d.)

History of Animation

Throughout the decade, animation evolved, with French cartoonist Émile Cohl’s two-minute stick figure animation, Fantasmagorie (1908), becoming one of the first cartoons. (MasterClass, n.d.)

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, produced by Walt Disney Studios, was the first animated feature film (1937). This film employed the traditional cel animation process, which entailed rendering two-dimensional visuals on a transparent sheet of celluloid. The cel animation process allowed for the transfer of illustrations between frames rather than having to redraw from scratch each time, which sped up the process and saved time and labour. (MasterClass, n.d.)

Examples of Animations

While I studied other animations that are comparable to my own animation in terms of theme or style while storyboarding my own animation.

Circular Economy

Figure 1 : Circular Economy is an important element as it allows to reuse a materials in a circle giving them a better life. (European Enviromental Agency, 06 June 2017).

The first animation examines the definition of the Circular Economy through the use of simple yet effective imagery. Following a cycle, each keyframe transitions into the next. The colours are extremely vibrant and complement each image to emphasise the importance of sustainability. The key transition from sun to circle back to sun illustrates the Circular Economy cycle. This animation, particularly the seamless transitions, could serve as a model for my own animation.

Sustainability in Everyday Life

Figure 2 : Sustainable animation showing a clear difference between normal living and sustainable which could advertise the benefits of sustainability (ACCIONA, 09 August 2015).

This animation compares the costs of normal living to the costs of sustainable living by using colour changes to show the difference between pollution and sustainability. Because this animation can be used for informational purposes, infographics can broaden its audience. Green and blue clearly distinguishes between normal and sustainable living expenses, as this animation may demonstrate the benefits of sustainability.

Eco House Animation

Figure 3 : Quick tour of 3D sustainable house which applies smooth transition in the model (University of Nizwa, 12 November 2013).

These animations will be used as research for my own animation, which will have a style similar to one of these animations and will follow a similar pattern. My animation will use a smooth transition between keyframes and will be able to reach a large audience in order to raise awareness, as many people are unaware of the benefits of sustainable housing.

3. Teamworking Storyboard

Psychometrical Testing

Figure 1 : Psychometrics, another name for psychological testing, is the methodical application of tests to measure psychophysical qualities, abilities, and concerns in order to predict psychological performance of a potential employee or just people in general. (Dorothy C. Adkins and Donald W. Fiske, Britannica, 05 June 2008.)

My mission was to choose which character would best match me as I viewed the Dasnish Orchestra performance. The individual sitting next to me was made to evaluate me once my self evaluation was done. After talking with the individual sitting next to me, the choice was made to become a conductor or whistler.

Why psychometrical testing is important?

The job market is extremely competitive, which can make the recruitment process difficult for employers. Hiring someone who appears to be a safe bet but struggles to fit in or, worse, disrupts the team can be an expensive and time-consuming mistake that employers must avoid (Melissa Turner, picked, 22 July 2021).

Recruiters can use psychometric testing to further assess each candidate and get a clear picture of how they might perform and behave in the workplace to take the selection process to the next level (Melissa Turner, picked, 22 July 2021).

Teamwork

Our group project was to create a flipbook of caterpillar eating something. My additional idea was to allow the caterpillar to eat pineapple. However, it was altered by making the caterpillar building a scooper from large bricks.

My caterpillar fipbook will follow the caterpillar as it discovers the Lego bricks hidden beneath the leaf and constructs the scooter. Lego bricks were chosen as the caterpillar is really small. This concept came from my childhood memories of building a scooter out of large bricks. When I was a kid, I used to ride my homemade scooter across the room and was amazed that it didn’t break. As the caterpillar scooters, it approaches and circles the pineapple. When the caterpillar reaches the top of the pineapple, it begins to move between the leaves.

Figure 1 : A photo of my keyframes of a caterpiller on his way to eat a pineapple.

2. Conceptual Design Transition Planning

After the process of brainstorming, I have come up with a variety of sustainable housing-related ideas in order to create animation. My first thought was to create a mouse-like animated character who would cross a unhealthy village and notice the advertisement. This advertisement changes to a sustainable town with recycled objects and a natural setting. As soon as the mouse enters a new area, it starts interacting with its neighbours. I abandoned the idea after quickly creating a storyboard because it was difficult and the transitions between the frames weren’t as seamless.

Figure 1 : While brainstorming, I was writing potential key words which would help to convey initial idea.
Figure 2 : Sketching key frames to map out the animation while planning conceptual transition.
Figure 3 : Last keyframes with description of each key frame and trying to apply conceptual thinking.

After conducting extra study, I discovered a European sustainable method known as Circular Economy, which entails reusing construction materials and adding more environmentally friendly components to reduce the number of diseases afflicting individuals living in standard dwellings. As a result, I chose to include this aspect in the animation. As a result, I created a new concept that connects two notions, such as Sustainable Housing and Circular Economy. This design storyboard begins with a mouse running through a village with ordinary houses. Mouse is sprinting to the reconstruction site, which instead of constructing buildings, rebalances them and recycles the materials. As the mouse enters the site, it displays the piece of paper from its back.

Figure 4 : The circular economy is a production and consumption model that promotes the reuse, repair, refurbishment, and recycling of existing materials and products for as long as possible. The life cycle of products is thus extended (News European Parliament, 02 December 2015). This cycle method will be incorporated as one of the ideas in my sustainable housing animation, along with actual sustainable home.

Using nature and ecological elements, this sheet of paper turns into the sustainable village. The mouse then runs to the pond across the new village. When the mouse stares into the water, it reflects the inner person that it has become. The person will then open the door to her new home. While the individual was walking home, another individual passed by and looked at the pond. The mouse is reflected in the pond. As a result, the person transforms into the mouse, and a falling leaf from the tree transforms into that piece of paper. As a result, the circle that connects Sustainable Housing and Circular Economy continues.

Figure 5 : Digital version of my storyboard covers the transition from regular houses with windows showing the start of the cycle to sustainable houses with windows going down.

1. Ethical or Sustainable Subject

What is Sustainability?

A graphic illustrating the significance of sustainability and its actual meaning by using plants to represent wind farm. (Daniel Thomas Mollenkamp, Investopedia, n.d.)

The definition of sustainability is “meeting the requirements of the present without compromising the needs of the future” and “ensuring a balance between economic growth, environmental protection, and social well-being.” (Santander Universidades, 06 April 2022)

Sustainable development is possible with political will and public support since it relies on the desire to preserve our world, helps reduce pollution and conserve resources, boosts the economy and creates jobs, promotes public health, and protects biodiversity. (Converse Energy Nature, n.d.)

How people sustain the nature?

Figure 1 : Recycling the plastic trays to use for growing plants and vegetables indoors as a way to sustain the environment and give plastic another purpose.

People already protect the environment by avoiding using plastic wherever possible. Purchase a glass water bottle that can be filled up again, recycle all paper and cardboard packaging, wrap packages by hand, and switch to green energy sources and products.

As green energy and environmentally friendly materials are frequently employed in houses, this will be advantageous. People will thus feel healthier and benefit nature by living in sustainable buildings or even by reusing recycled goods.

Sustainable housing

According to Paul Collins, “An eco-friendly house is a house which respects the environment, is made from non-toxic materials, and is energy-efficient both in its construction and use. However, new technologies and construction methods mean that the concept of an “eco-friendly home” is constantly evolving.” (Paul Collins, Selectra, n.d.)

Health hazards arise from a degraded urban environment that is plagued by air and noise pollution, a lack of green spaces, and limited transportation options. The population’s physical and mental health is directly impacted by housing circumstances. Numerous avoidable illnesses and injuries, including cancer, cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous system disorders, are caused by, or worsened by, substandard housing and interior conditions. (UNDRR, n.d.)

Target Audience

When it comes to making my own animation, the target audience will be families and people who are unable to live in a regular house due to allergies or other health issues caused by the materials used in these houses. A possible animation will investigate the significance of Sustainable Housing and the Circular Economy.
